Lie Shi joined Celgard in 1991 through Hoechst Celanese Corporation (HCC), the former parent company, as a research scientist working on lithium polymer batteries and polymeric fiber development. He was named Technical Manager of the HCC Separation Division in 1997, which later became Celgard, LLC. In 2000, he was promoted to VP, Research & Development, where he used his battery separator expertise to lead Celgard’s pioneering R&D efforts for more than a decade and contributed to its emergence as a leading material supplier in the Lithium-ion battery industry. Lie assumed the role of VP & CTO, Separator Technology in 2014. He attended Beijing University in China and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Kyoto University in Japan. Lie also holds a Master of Science Degree in Physics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
Jonathan joined Celgard in 2018 as the Director of Human Resources. He has held business partner and leadership roles in Human Resources at United Technologies Corporation, Raytheon Company, Hyster-Yale Group and Thermo Fisher Scientific. Jonathan holds a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Clemson University.
John joined the company in 2008 as Operations Managing Director in Celgard's Korean facility. He later held various positions at the USA manufacturing facility; most notably as the leader of the Process Innovation and Quality Improvement TFT teams. His recent assignment as President of Celgard Korea brought significant improvement of productivity and quality for thin film development and commercialization. He brings a wealth of operations experience and battery separator expertise to his current role as Vice President of Operations. John possesses eight international patents including one for a unique optical measurement system which helps measure film bagginess. John holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Hanyang University in Korea and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Kyungpook National University in Korea.
Ian McCallum joined Celgard in 2015 as the Director of Global Strategic Marketing, shortly prior to the company’s acquisition by Asahi Kasei. Since joining the company, Ian has performed additional leadership roles including Product Management and Sales Operations. Prior to Celgard, he spent more than a decade with Alcoa in a wide variety of roles from product engineering & development to global corporate strategy. He then joined the carbon & graphite industry with GrafTech (ex-Union Carbide) responsible for business & market development. Ian’s career has its foundation in the manufacturing of highly engineered materials primarily for transportation and energy applications. He received his BS in Materials Engineering from Drexel University and holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
Dr. Reinartz joined Celgard in 2015 as Director of Product Management and currently leads the Global Technology and Product Development groups. He has held technical as well as leadership roles in R&D and Product Management at DuPont and Axalta Coating Systems. Dr. Reinartz holds a Diploma in Chemistry from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Germany, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Villanova University.
Adam joined Celgard in 2017 and currently leads the company’s global finance function. Prior to this appointment, Adam served as Financial Reporting Manager and then Corporate Controller for Celgard’s parent company Polypore International, LP. In those roles, he first led the company’s corporate accounting, global consolidation and external reporting to the SEC, and additionally the acquisition and transition accounting and reporting integration following Asahi Kasei’s 2015 acquisition of Polypore. Adam joined Polypore in 2014 after 9 years in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ offices in Charlotte, NC, Lausanne, Switzerland, and Chicago, IL where he served large, multi-national manufacturing and consumer products audit clients. He holds a Master of Accounting degree from Kenan-Flagler Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, both at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Zhang is recognized as the leading authority on lithium-ion battery safety and separators. He is a leader in establishing lithium-ion battery industry standards (P1625, P1725 and CTIA) through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has chaired and/or organized more than 60 international conferences and delivered more than 60 invited keynote or plenary speeches at various international conferences. John has published more than 110 patents, papers and books, including the first ceramic coating separator patent (US 6, 432, 586) and some of the most cited papers (Chem. Reviews, 2004 and Li-ion safety papers 2006-now). Dr. Zhang received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai University. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrochemistry from Shandong University, and a Ph.D. in Material Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has also completed additional Post Doctorate studies in Nuclear Interactions.
Arthur Zhao began his career with Celgard in 2004 as the Plant Manager responsible for the start-up of the Celgard Shanghai Finishing Facility. He later moved to the USA where he was responsible for managing the complete manufacturing process as Plant Manager of the Charlotte, North Carolina plant. In the last few years, Arthur broadened his responsibilities when he joined Celgard’s sister company, Daramic and served as the P&L leader for Northeast Asia. Most recently he was the Vice President/Managing Director of the Asia-Pacific region. His broad commercial and operations background, including his battery separator expertise, has helped him be instrumental in leading teams to improved operational performance and profitability. Arthur holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in China.
